Orlando, Florida | What to see and where to go?

Florida yay

So I went to Orlando, Florida, at the end of February, so this post is long over due but just I thought I’d share a few things I got up too and would recommend.

What’s not to love about visiting Florida, even in February the weather was great, there’s lots of theme parks and entertainment and if you wanted to, you can make it really cheap.

Daytona 500 - Love LeighDaytona 500 - Love Leigh

Daytona 500

The Daytona 500 is a big NASCAR race held every year in February at Daytona International Speedway. My boyfriend is a huge motorsport fan, and in fact it was because of this race that we actually booked the holiday.

I’m not overly fussed about racing but I have to say I had a really fun day! There is lots of pre-race entertainment before you go into the stand, and then the build up to the race is good too. I would definitely recommend doing this, but only if you have at least a slight interest in cars. It is a long day but you can bring your own food and drink so make sure you’re prepared.

Ice Hockey – Solar Bears

Before this holiday I’d never actually seen an ice hockey match or been bothered by going to one, but it was absolutely brilliant! I have to say the Americans really know how to put on pre-game entertainment and they know how to build the atmosphere, it definitely makes for good entertainment. I was actually shocked how aggressively they went into the sides, but it was really entertaining. Tickets were quite cheap too which was a bonus.

Basketball NBA – Orlando Magic

I went to my first ever Basketball game and it was so fun! I’m not really into sports (I genuinely consider shopping a sport) , but the atmosphere was fantastic and I would highly recommend paying a visit!

Discovery Cove - Love Leigh

Discovery Cove

So Discovery Cove is park where you can swim with dolphins, swim with fish and huge sting rays and feed birds. It is an all inclusive park with breakfast, lunch, snacks and all drinks, including alcoholic ones – I have a lovely mango daiquiri,

My boyfriend and I did the dolphin swim package and it was amazing. It’s not a dolphin swim like some you see where the dolphin pushing you in the air with their nose, it’s just a gentle pull along the water but incredible none the less as you get to learn so much about the beautiful animals.

The great reef is amazing too, the stingrays are HUGE, I thought I was swimming towards a rock at one point, and when I looked down I saw the stingray. The coral and fish are gorgeous and it was such a nice environment.

Universal Studios & Island of Adventure

So I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan so naturally both Universal parks are amazing for me. We got the two park ticket which you get to visit Island of Adventure and ride the Hogwarts Express between each park. My inner fan girl came out, it was a magical dream!

Obviously the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Diagon Alley aren’t the only exciting things at Universal – the hulk roller coaster is insane, Rip it Rock It is brilliant and Krustyland is another favourite.

Busch Gardens

Busch Gardens is THE BEST THEME PARK for roller coasters. Honestly I have so many favourite rides in this park, it is perfect for all thrill seekers.

If you are visiting Florida for the first time and you are staying near Tampa, I would highly reccommend this park – if I could only do one thing, it would be Busch Gardens.

Sheikra, Falcons Fury and Cheetah Hunt are my three faves!

Machine Gun America

So my boyfriend and I went to a shooting range, as here in the UK you can’t really go somewhere to shoot guns and it was something we both wanted to try.

We decided to visit somewhere called Machine Gun America, and I have to say it was really good. So when you first arrive you get shown a list of guns to choose from and it was literally something from Call of Duty. I was a bit overwhelmed but the people were lovely and really helpful. My boyfriend and I picked the AK47 and a pistol because it was within our budget and they weren’t too powerful for us first timers.

It was such a fun experience and I am so glad I tried this, it was such an adrenaline rush.

Shopping

See what I brought here.

I went with my boyfriend back in September 2015 and we did every single Disney Park and he even treated me to dinner at Cinderella’s Castle (because he knows I’m a princess). Whilst I’d advise anyone visiting Orlando for the first time to visit the Disney World parks, we didn’t do it this time round. But this time around we wanted to try some other places.

Now to try and convince my boyfriend to let us book our next holiday!

Where have you visited recently?

    • Omg you so should, it is amazing. I didn’t write about the Disney parks as we didn’t go this time around but they are also amazing too. If you have anymore questions about visiting I’m happy to help!
